Samantha Mcallister

I've been so seriously stressed out for so long that, in my attempt to "prime the pump" for 6-Commando (which I really am trying to get back into the "flow" with), I've turned to a long-deferred character design for Lift.  This is Samantha Mcallister, and she's the third of the four main characters in the story.  Life in the Lift universe is not always idyllic - just as in our world, it can be very, very tough sometimes.  Without giving too much away, I'll let on that she's just finished her first year in high school in the Free City of Philadelphia, living away from home.  Although her family lives in Chattanooga, Sam's mother insisted that she go to high school in the Free City, and so Sam lives with a friend of the family in Olney.  She may not look it at first glance, but she's a tough customer.  Like many of her classmates, Sam works in her off hours to supplement her family's income, but she's chosen a rather more rigorous job than the office or retail positions her friends tend to prefer.  At fifteen, she's a Deckhand First Class in the company fleet of Knish Condiments, primarily working in the freight bay.  It may be hard work, and the pay may be a bit thin, but she loves her job because it gives her the chance to fly, and to learn all she can about how airships operate. One day, she's going to have an airship of her own, and anyone who tries to tell her otherwise is going to get the shock of a lifetime.  Also, as Knish Condiments has a shipping terminal in Chattanooga, the job gives her the chance to visit home once in a while on the company's dime.

As one of the two "mission critical" characters, she gets more than three costume designs - these are just the most important ones.  She's one of my favorite designs so far - drawing kids has always been a weakness of mine, one I hope to conquer with Lift.
