I know I don't post here a ton and it's already down to 24 hours on this, but the second volume of the Spiderforest Webcomic Collective's anthology Threads is on Kickstarter, and WE MADE OUR GOAL! And now that we did, we can FINALLY reveal that my comic "A Death at the Gates of Heaven," an 18-page feature length collaboration with Varethane, creator of the comic Chirault, is a stretch goal set for a mere $750 more! We have less than 24 hours to go, so thank you ALL for your support and let's see if we can get this one in as well!

Have a look, why not?

This is a time of big change for me, and among these is a long-term migration away from Adobe and towards Affinity and CSP (yeah, screw the monthly subscription fees), and a long search for a good alternative to a Wacom Cintiq tablet.

Every time I update the drivers on my Wacom tablet, it seems to get worse.  I burn with the white-hot rage of a thousand suns that this idiotic "touch" functionality does not and HAS never worked properly.  Every time I put pen to tablet, apparently the Cintiq believes that what I want to do, instead of drawing a line, is "Zoom in and out randomly and rotate to a bizarre angle for no reason."  Why that command is built in, I don't know, but I can't turn it off without disabling touch functionality altogether, which is idiotic, but the only workaround I have left.  My inquiries to Wacom have resulted in the helpless response "Yeah, that ought not to happen."  Thanks, guys.

So I'm in the market for good alternatives.  So to my fellow digital artists - what do you use?  Have you found the secret sauce that gets Wacom Cintiq tablets to stop acting like they were assembled by monkeys?  Do you have an alternative that works well without all the bullcrap?  Inquiring artists want to know.

Why is it that all of a sudden 90% of the stuff that comes in my "Watch" feed for groups is people trying to sell Photoshop filters through dA?  Christ on the Cross, can they just STOP already?  Between that, the I-Wish-The-Commies-Won-The-Cold-War crap and the Nazi propaganda, this place has gotten kind of out of hand in the past few years.  I mean, maybe it's me, but JEEZ.

Even though I make a reasonable living these days, my life of freelancing, graduate school and associated moochery has left me with an aversion to throwing anything away so long as it retains the properties of a solid.

This weekend, though, I learned my lesson.  This morning I woke up with a sharp, shooting pain starting in the middle of my back and going all the way down my left leg.  When I looked at the chair at my desk, where I'd just spent two days working on comics, I saw that the cushion on the back was worn totally away, and a piece of freaking metal was sticking out, right in the place where, fifteen or so years ago, I broke my damn back.

So yeah, that's how you know.

What the heck is wrong with me that I sat on this for two days, probably in constant pain I was telling myself was all in my imagination?  Jeez, man.
